THIS IS A UNIVERSITY PREPARATORY PROGRAMME
Economics Programme
The Economics Programme is a university preparatory programme for students who desire to study social sciences, especially economics and law. The programme is also aimed at those who desire to learn how to start, run and develop companies.

The programme lays the foundation for further studies in economics, law and other social sciences at the university level.
Two different specialisations
Economics
- You will learn about business economics areas such as marketing, accounting, calculation, leadership and organisation. You will learn how to start and run a business.
Law
- You will learn about the importance of the rule of law in Swedish society and how it is affected by international law. You will develop your ability to analyse and assess legal issues.
When I chose the programme, I had no idea what I wanted to work with. That’s why I chose a broad line of study. Today, entrepreneurship, law and business economics all interest me, but it’s nice that I can basically become anything I want.

What you will learn in the programme
You will develop your knowledge of economics, business economics, entrepreneurship, law and psychology. You will study economic conditions in society, trade between countries, and the role and responsibilities of companies in a globalised world. You will learn methods for solving business problems. You will gain insight into how people think, feel, act, and interact with each other. You will learn about the importance of the rule of law in a democratic society and see how Swedish domestic legislation is influenced by public international law. You will develop your ability to analyse and assess legal issues.
How the programme is structured
The foundational upper secondary school subjects included in the Economics Programme are:
- English,
- History,
- Physical Education and Health,
- Mathematics,
- Science Studies,
- Religious Studies,
- Social Studies, and
- Swedish, or Swedish as a Second Language.
In the university preparatory programmes, one takes more theoretical courses than in the vocational programmes.
The programme-wide subjects specific to this particular programme are:
- Business Economics,
- Law,
- Modern Languages, and
- Psychology.
You will have the opportunity to both specialise and broaden your knowledge within the framework of the programme. This is called a “programme specialisation.” For example one might specialise in:
- Philosophy,
- Geography,
- Graphic Communication,
- Leadership and Organisation,
- Mathematics,
- Media Communication,
- Modern Languages,
- Psychology, or
- Sociology.
Check with the school about what advanced courses are offered.
You can also choose elective courses in which you decide what you want to learn about. Ask the school which courses are offered.
Working methods
In the program, you search, analyse and evaluate information in a source-critical manner. The starting point for your learning is assignments related to socio-economics, business economics, and law that you will complete individually or in groups. This develops your ability to reason from different perspectives, draw conclusions, and present an argument based on central concepts, theories and models.
You get to practice using scientific methods to structure and present your results to a given target group.
You will learn how to build your own brand, make contacts and run a business. That’s something I really like about the Economics Programme. You get to learn at an early age what it takes to create a unique company.

Diploma project
At the end of the Economics Programme, you must complete a diploma project. You must formulate a question and plan and carry out, and then evaluate a large project that is based on important areas of knowledge within the programme.
Intended learning outcomes
The intended learning outcomes define what a learner will have acquired and will be able to do upon successfully completing their studies in a particular upper secondary school programme.
Programme structure
In the programme structure, you can see which subjects and courses are included in the educational programme. You can also see how many credits are earned for each course.
Keep in mind
If you want to fulfil the specific entry requirements for a particular higher education programme, it is important to plan your studies. If you want to continue your studies at the university level, it is a good idea to speak with a study and career counsellor.
You always have the right to choose an additional course in Physical Education and Health and an aesthetic course as one of your electives.
