Video: Video briefly describing the Humanities Programme (Runtime: 5:02)
What you will learn in the Humanities Programme
You will study people past and present. Among other things, this means you will learn more about culture and cultural heritage, literature, history and philosophy. Languages are an important part of the programme, and you will learn about the connection between language and culture. You will also develop your linguistic abilities and creativity in Swedish, English and the other languages you choose to study, honing your ability to communicate, reflect, learn, analyse and interpret.
You will study human culture and history from various perspectives and delve into the different ways people think and express themselves. You will reflect on ethical and philosophical issues and develop your ability to make an argument, draw conclusions and justify your positions. In the programme, you will practice managing and critically reviewing different types of sources.
You will develop your ability to collaborate, identify different opportunities and take the initiative. You will also practice working independently and learn to take responsibility.
At first, I didn’t really have any idea what I wanted to be, which was a bit of a downer. But then I heard about the Humanities Programme. I’ve always thought languages are so fun to learn, so it was really something that I liked from the very beginning. Now that I’ve been in the programme for three years, I think it’s the best decision I ever made.

Two different specialisations
Culture
- You will learn about culture and aesthetic forms of expression, literature, philosophy and psychology. You will study and discuss various cultural expressions and experiences from different perspectives.
Languages
- You will deepen your knowledge of languages and the connection between language, culture and society. You will learn about the value of language and how language skills reinforce each other.
I’d say that the coolest thing is all the languages I’ve learned. Last year I learned Latin, and I never thought I’d actually study Latin, but it was really fun. All the opportunities to learn languages are super cool.
