Kemiska risker

The course will first provide the scientific background on the environmental risk assessment of chemicals, such as pesticides, biocides, industrial chemicals or pharmaceuticals. How is (eco) toxicological knowledge applied in practice? We will then analyse major regulations, such as e.g. the Uniform Principle for pesticide assessment, the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control Directive, the Biocide Directive, the European Water Framework Directive and the new REACH regulation. Their scientific approaches and specific aims are examined, compared and put into a socio-political context. The course consists of lectures, seminars, exercises and student projects. Suggestions for specific topics at the beginning of the course are very much welcome and will be taken up for the final course plan.
