Railway Engineering Programme

The Railway Engineering Programme is a vocational programme for anyone who wants to work in train maintenance. The programme recruits nationally, which means that pupils from all over the country can apply for admission to the programme on the same terms.

What you will learn in the Railway Engineering Programme

Among other things, you will learn how trains and other railway vehicles work, how they are designed, and how to troubleshoot, repair and service the vehicles and their auxiliary equipment. You'll learn how to choose the right equipment and methods, taking into account the environment, quality, safety and economy.

You will also receive training in computers and computer systems, and learn about national and international agreements, laws and other regulations.

The programme also emphasises communication skills in order to be able to work both independently and in a group.

This programme has no orientations. The programme specialisation includes a wide range of subjects that enables you to specialise in a specific area.

Diploma project

At the end of the Railway Engineering Programme, you will carry out a diploma project in your chosen professional field. Through this project, you will demonstrate that you have the knowledge required to start working in your chosen field.

Workplace-based learning

Parts of the programme take place at one or more workplaces for at least 15 weeks. This is known as workplace-based learning (arbetsplatsförlagt lärande, APL). This is an important element of the programme. APL gives you the opportunity to use the knowledge you gained through school and put it into practice. It gives you work experience and contacts you can use when looking for a job.

Starting work after the programme and examples of professions

You can start working right after completing the programme. Here are some examples of professions you may qualify for after the programme.

Further studies after the programme and qualification

Do you want to continue your studies at a college or university after completing the programme? Through the programme, you will meet the general entry requirements for higher education studies as well as certain specific entry requirements. After the programme, you can also study a higher vocational education programme or a programme at a folk high school.
