Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities

Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities is for those who have a developmental impairment/intellectual disability or a non-congenital brain injury and who lack education from Compulsory School for Pupils with Intellectual Disabilities, Upper Secondary School for Pupils with Intellectual Disabilities or Compulsory or Upper Secondary School. As of 1 July of the year that you turn 20, you can begin studying at a Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities.

There are many educational programmes for adults to choose from, both programmes that lead to a profession and programmes that prepare for further studies at a vocational college or university. Municipal Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities
At a Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities, you can take courses in various subjects and validate knowledge you already have. You receive an individual study plan that includes your goal with the educational programme and what courses are included.
At a Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities, you can
- study at a basic or upper secondary level
- choose between different courses
- study Swedish for immigrants in parallel
- attend a vocationally oriented educational programme
- earn a diploma that is equivalent to Upper Secondary School for Pupils with Intellectual Disabilities
- have previous knowledge validated.
Who can study at a Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities?
Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities is for those who have a developmental impairment/intellectual disability or a non-congenital brain injury and who lack education from Compulsory School for Pupils with Intellectual Disabilities, Upper Secondary School for Pupils with Intellectual Disabilities or Compulsory or Upper Secondary School. Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities is also for adults who want to supplement an earlier education, change professions or learn Swedish.
As of 1 July of the year that you turn 20, you can begin studying at a Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities. To be able to study at a Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities, you must also be resident in Sweden, lack the knowledge that the education provides and have conditions to be able to complete the education. Sometimes, one can also begin even if one is younger than 20.
How the educational programme is structured
There may be a possibility to study full time or part time. There is also a possibility to take certain courses, or parts of courses, at a workplace.
Studies at different levels may be combined. For example, you can combine education in Swedish for immigrants (sfi) with other studies in a Municipal Adult Education for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities.

Assessment and learning
During the programme, you will continuously receive information on what you have learned in relation to the teaching objectives.
It is important that you obtain an understanding of your own learning and need for development.
Grades
Students who are done with courses receive grades. The grading scale is A-E, where A is the highest grade and E is the lowest grade.
