THIS IS A HIGHER EDUCATION PREPARATORY PROGRAMME
Humanities Programme
Do you want to understand human beings? Are you interested in culture, history, language and philosophy? This is the programme for anyone interested in the humanities and social sciences.
Video: This video provides a brief description of the Humanities Programme (time: 5:02 min)
What you will learn in the Humanities Programme
You will study people from the past and present, which means you will learn more about culture and heritage, literature, history and philosophy. Languages are important in the programme, and you will learn how language and culture are connected. You will also develop your linguistic confidence and creativity in Swedish, English and the other languages you choose to study, in order to communicate, reflect, learn, analyse and interpret.
You will study human culture and history from different perspectives, and familiarise yourself with the different ways people think and express themselves. You will reflect on ethical and philosophical issues and develop your ability to argue, draw conclusions and justify your position. The programme trains you to handle and critically examine different types of sources.
You will develop your ability to collaborate, recognise different possibilities and take initiative. You also learn to work independently and take responsibility.
At first, I didn't really know what I wanted to do, so things felt a bit overwhelming. But then I heard about the Humanities Programme. I've always enjoyed learning languages, so it was something I really liked from the start. Now that I'm three years in, I think it's the best decision I've ever made.

Orientations
Culture
- You will learn about culture and forms of aesthetic expression, literature, philosophy and psychology. You study and discuss forms of cultural expression and cultural experiences from different perspectives.
Language
- You will deepen your knowledge of language and the relationship between language, culture and society. You learn about the value of language and how language skills are mutually supportive.
Diploma project
At the end of the Humanities Programme, you will carry out a diploma project. This involves formulating a question, planning, executing and evaluating a major project based on important areas of knowledge in the programme.
Honours programme
When choosing a higher education preparatory programme, there are also honours programmes available with nationwide recruitment. An honours programme in upper secondary school allows you to delve deeper into one or more subjects and take higher education courses.
After the programme
The programme lays the foundation for further studies in humanities and social sciences at a higher education institution.
Qualification for studies after the programme
Through the Humanities Programme, you will meet the general entry requirements for higher education studies. You will also have the option to choose additional subjects and levels to meet specific entry requirements for higher education.
It is important to plan your studies if you want to meet specific entry requirements for a particular higher education programme. We recommend that you talk to a study and vocational guidance counsellor if you want to continue your studies.
Use the “Behörighetsvisaren” (Qualification indicator) service to see which higher education programmes you may be eligible to apply for after the programme.
