Video: This video provides a brief description of the Restaurant Management and Food Programme (time: 4:46 min)
What you will learn in the Restaurant Management and Food Programme
In the Restaurant Management and Food Programme, you will learn the craft of food and baking. You will also learn how to produce and handle food.
You will learn both traditional and modern artisanal methods in professional cooking, baking and serving. You will learn about the meal as a holistic experience, sales, service, hygiene, nutrition, speciality foods and serving alcohol.
You will train in the profession together with others under real-life conditions. You will also learn to work with others and will develop your ability to interact with customers and provide good service.
The programme mixes theory with practice. You will learn to take initiative, to be flexible, responsive and creative, and to work independently. You will plan, organise, implement and quality assure your work.
Economics and business enterprise are also included in the programme.
The programme places great emphasis on occupational health and safety issues to avoid work-related injuries and to build good health.
I like to cook; I've done it all my life. I pretty much grew up in the kitchen and have always helped my mum when she cooked and baked, so it was a natural choice for me. But even if you don't know how to cook, you are welcome to take part and learn.

It gives you work experience and contacts you can use when looking for a job.
Apprenticeship education
If the school offers upper secondary apprenticeship education within the programme, you can choose this. This means that you gain the same knowledge, but spend at least half of the programme based at one or more workplaces.
